Giveaway & Tutorial Time...

Goodly Morning!  I am back, as promised, with a special tutorial as part of the mahoosive Craft Stamper blog hop celebration.  How did you do?  Did you win any flash prizes?  I didn't have chance to hop about and join in myself because I was busy teaching but from what I have seen, it looks like everyone loved taking part.

Anyways... I have done a photo step by step tutorial which will show you how to make this canvas... and as I also promised, there's some candy up for grabs for one randomly chosen entrant.  To enter into the giveaway, please click to follow me if you don't already and then leave me a comment.  Entries close at 23.59 GMT on Friday February 8th and the winner will be announced on Saturday February 9th 2013.  The winner will receive some fabby candy which will help you on your way to making the canvas.... AND... the actual canvas itself too!  Details of the stash in the candy will follow after the tutorial but here's a piccie to whet your appetite :O))

So, the ingredients you will need are pictured.. you can use all manner of what-have-you on a creation like this, so if you have lots of goodies stashed away for a special piece, now would be the time to get them out and play!  Here goes with the tut!

INGREDIENTS

STEP 1
Draw around the stencil you are using - this one is from the Stencils For Art range by Wendy Vecchi's Studio 490. This will give you an idea where to place your paper scraps

STEP 2
Use a wet glue to stick your paper blocks to the canvas - I always use Cosmic Shimmer Dries Clear because it is the best wet glue in the world (said in my best Jeremy Clarkson voice there you know ;o)) Because you know where your heart will be, you don't need to cover over it... wasting paper underneath.

STEP 3
Keep adding your paper blocks until you have the canvas covered - add them over lapping and pop smaller snips across to add layers to the finished look.

STEP 4
Pop a small amount of cream paint onto a piece of Cut & Dry foam and mist with water to create a wash. Press the Cut & Dry onto your craft sheet so you can make the coverage smoother.

STEP 5
Smooth the Cut & Dry over your canvas - this will blend all your papers together and make them more uniform.

STEP 6
Dry your canvas immediately with a heat tool - you will see the paper start to bubble up after the paint application, don't panic, this is totally normal.

STEP 7
Use Glue & Seal or similar to cover the entire surface - this will not only seal your papers, it will also make applications of further products easier in later stages of the creative process.

STEP 8
Dry this with your heat tool too - you will see the papers bubble again slightly - again this is normal and once dried, they will flatten again.

STEP 9
Place your stencil over the canvas and spread Embossing Paste over the top - I use Studio 490 Embossing Paste - tis my fave!  Use a palette knife for the application and make some peaks in the embossing paste... like icing a cake :O)

STEP 10
You can see the peaks on this photo... when the paste has dried it turns matte.

STEP 11
Take your paper flowers - I use plain white ones and dye them with Colorwash/Dylusions sprays so they match perfectly - if you have coloured ones you can skip this step

STEP 12
Assemble your flower layers into embellishments and spritz with Marble Black Dylusions Spray.

STEP 13
Shake up a bottle of Cosmic Shimmer to aggitate the mica and spritz onto the flowers.  Leave part of the flowers un-sprayed.... Set aside to dry.

STEP 14
Once your embossing paste is dried you can then decorate the canvas.  Start by measuring spaces along the edges of the canvas and mark with a pencil - this will be the start of the bi-colour border.

STEP 15
Paint alternate cream and black sections right around the edges of the canvas and dry with a heat tool.  I like to use Black Gesso for this but any black paint will work.

STEP 16
Now we are ready to add some definition to the layers created in the first few steps.  I like to use a Stabilo ALL pencil but a charcoal pencil would work well too.  Draw along the lines of layers on the papers and also around the heart.

STEP 17
Use a babywipe or waterbrush to blend the black lines to shading.

STEP 18
Use a piece of Cut & Dry and black Gesso to add black right around the edges of the front of the canvas to tidy them up and blend the front to the sides, creating a frame for your art.

STEP 19
Spritz Black Marble Dylusions Spray onto the canvas in patches, ensuring that you are spritzing onto the edges too.  Too scary?  Don't worry... if you overspray, because we sealed the papers with Glue & Seal, if you make a boo-boo you can wipe it off and start again!

STEP 20
Use your finger to apply Treasure Gold wax over the peaky bits of the embossing... and also patches onto the front and sides of the canvas.  Buff with a soft cloth to add sheen.

STEP 21
This is my fave bit!  Grab all your embellies and move them around unti you have them placed as you want... add Treasure Gold to your embellies to make them look metallic... you can use it on practically any surface too.  Once you have them in place, glue it all down!

FINISHED:

And there you have it!  I hope you enjoyed the tutorial and found it helpful too.  If you do make a canvas, please do let me know - link into the post or pop an email over to me.   Oh and the candy... here's what is included: 2 x 5x7 canvases and canvas board, Treasure Gold wax, 7Gypsies Alpha stamps, Artemio wooden embellies, Artemio Metal flower embellies, Resin Roses, Prima butterfly embellies, Clock embellies, Papier Mache hanging board... and of course, the canvas I have made.   Don't forget, to be in with a chance to win, click to follow my blog and leave me a comment... simples!

Thanks for looking... have a good and crafty day!  TTFN
