Book Hogs...

...I used to have a real "issue" with ripping up an old book and using the pages for crafty creations... my inner book-ish person used to cringe... but not anymore. Oh no, I have turned into a ruthless book basher. There's a little charity basket in our local shop and customers can donate their unwanted books... I have picked up a few gems recently including a couple of really old paperbacks. Last weekend at Birds In The Barn I spied some rather clever folded books... folded into the shape of hedgehogs.

A little known fact about me.. I used to collect hedgehogs, I had hundreds of them (in fact, I still do, just most of them are packaged away in hibernation) So, seeing a book turned into a hedgehog... well, I had to have a try didn't I? They are a doddle to make, fold the pages and then fold the top corner... simples! I added some punched dots for eyes and a couple of patterned wood buttons for their noses. I have this notion that I will add some decorated tags into the folds... but then again I may be a bit busy folding up some more paperbacks that I am intending to rummage in the charity basket for later on :O))

I have to say thank you for the sympathy on yesterdays post... and ok, I will forgive you for laughing (if I had seen someone do that, I would be hooting) I am aching and have grazes (why does a graze hurt SO much???) and a couple of bruises... it just serves me right for being a div... you see, I am suffering from the "brain is younger than the body" syndrome... I really must make it catch up (mind you, I would rather think I am still 20 than admit I am far from it lol) It is a good job I am padded otherwise there could have been bones broken (mmm, trying to craft with a broken arm? Not ideal... am staying away from skateboards from now on!) Anyways... that's me for today... I am getting ready for my demo day at Stamp Addicts tomorrow... looking forward to getting inky... hope to see you there if you can make it! Thanks for looking... TTFN

Aww, they're cute and storage for tags sounds a brilliant idea, methinks! Glad you're not too much worse for wear Hels. I don't think your brain will ever catch up with your body ............ mine hasn't and I'm muuuuuuch older than you, lol! Mind you it doesn't try to persuade me to skateboard. It did however, persuade me I could still bend over backwards into the 'crab' a few years ago and the muscles in my back locked! I thought I was going to be stuck like that for ever .......... talk about panic,;o))

Brilliant idea Hells with the hedgehogs. I reckon I would've probably had a go on the skateboard too, and I would've probably ended up with exactly the same injury! Only knowing my luck there would've been a crowd of people there all with various high speed cameras so they could get me at every angle before I hit the ground! Michelle x

Love your hedgehogs ! I made Christmas trees with my grandchildren using a similar method but definitely going to have a go at these! Sorry I didn't comment yesterday but was laughing too much - I did a similar thing with roller skates a few years ago so I know how much you are aching - hope it eases soon, Chrisx

Wonderful folding there. We have a real live hoggy who visits every night to steal the bird food!! He's really big - and fast.

Love the hedgehogs! I'm still trying to overcome my inner book-person. Manage to alter 1 book so far, but that had me feeling so guilty! Will try to overcome it tho. Great work as always. Zo xx

Your post today reminded me of a visit to Lincoln last year to a very posh craft shop and they were selling this kind of thing for a small fortune! Love the hedgehogs and great idea to put tags in, off to try it now.....hope your grazes and bruises soon heal. Anne x
