Small Steps...

...very, very, very small steps indeedily. Oh yesh, I have finally taken the plunge and started a journal! I made a book for myself last year but after cocking up the first page I soon banished said book to the Drawer of Despair... which is basically where absolutely everything I make that I don't like ends up.

So... this here journalling lark... has always had me fascinated... and I am full of admiration for those who can do it... and who make their pages look totally awesome. I mentioned on yesterdays post that I had been given the good and proper shove that I need by Dyan... and I also had much encouragement from Dan too... so I did it... just got painty, inky, splatted stuff about and generally enjoyed myself... apart from the actual wordy part, which I really have trouble with... goodness knows why because how difficult can it be? Actually, tis very difficult (for me) because I really hate my handwriting... and so, the thingywotsit I did the writing on looks naff... it was written, covered over, written and then over written... it is all a load of old waffle but still, I needs to sort out my handwriting! Right... time to get back to the book of Hels... thanks for looking... have a very goodly day! TTFN

Hey Hels, love your pages. I know exactly how you feel. I have always admired art journaling (dyan and kate crane!!!) but I hate my handwriting and I just dont write journals. But I have tried "journaling" in a different way, I do canvases and stuff and instead of writing lots of things I use quotes and stamped words. No handwriting needed. I havent looked back since, I love throwing paint around the living room now!!! Cant wait to see more of your pages!!!!

Hi Hels
It's going to be a wonderful journal, given the rest of the beautiful work you do. Have fun with it! The first pages look AWESOME! Look forward to seeing more!

I tend to hide my writing under layers of paint, not because I hate my writing but to hide the mind dribble that I write! Journalling is for yourself and should be somewhere you feel free to dump your mess, and not worry about others perceptions. Having said that there are many reasons people journal,so there are no rules, love your edging and colours.x

D'ya know what? I think we all hate our handwriting. The key word there though is that it is "our" handwriting. Not anyone elses. It's real, and it's ours. Not printed, not stilted, just ours. And that is the greatest expression of art, coming from within. Glory in your handwritng, whether it's basic block printing, or true stampotique-stylee spider scrawl!

I like it! I played with one page a few weeks back and put aside. You've encouraged me to keep working - plus I just received and viewed the Divine Kate Crane's DVDs on Art Journaling.
Cheers!
