This Thursday Challenge - Winged Things

The new challenge over on This Thursday is Winged Things. It has been sponsored by The Artistic Stamper..... and guess what? I am the Guest Designer!!!! How exciting!! :O))


For my entry, I made a Gothic Arch card kind of thing... I know, I am being vague but it is difficult to describe what it actually is LOL


I started off by cutting four Gothic Arch shapes from sturdy cardstock. I then used several of the images from the Insect & Butterflies Plate from The Artistic Stamper. I made masks for these images, basically, I stamped onto copy paper and used a repositionable sticky roller to attach the masks over the images I had stamped onto the Arches. As I stamped each image, I popped a mask over the top and then stamped the next image partly over the top. This gave me the effect that the butterflies and dragonflies were flying up the Arch in a plume.

I repeated this technique on all four of the Arch shapes and stamped until I was happy with the over all look.



I then used a damp babywipe and picked up some colour on it from an Adirondack Inkpad. I chose to use Stonewashed as this is a lovely pale blue and it really lends itself to being a great background colour. With all the masks still in place, I gently dragged the babywipe inwards from the edge of the Arches so I achieved a streaky look to the background. I used a heatgun just to dry the ink off quickly. I have found that if the babywipe is a little too damp, it will transfer moisture onto the cardstock and can buckle it - hence the heatgun to dry it off quickly :O))



I then got busy with the waterbrush and coloured in all the images. I used various Adirondack inkpads for the colouring in - I made this Gothic Arch before I got my Watercolour pencils and my Prisma's - but I was chuffed with the overall look of the painted in images.

I then stamped a few more of the images directly onto some spare cardstock and coloured these in too. I cut them out and set them aside to be used later on the finished article.

Blimey, this is long winded isn't it? I will speed up now to save you all dropping off for 40 winks! LOL



I stuck two Arches back to back and did the same with the other two, I then used some Grungeboard hinges, which I had coloured in gold using a Krylon pen, and gold brads to secure the Grungeboard. This then made the them into an opening style Arch. This was a lot more fiddly than I made it sound as I needed the backs of the brads to be sandwiched inside the back to back Arches....see, I am off again, waffling on.....


I used some more spare cardstock and stamped the sentiment stamps and coloured the card as before with the babywipe and Stonewashed ink. I attached these to the Arches using 3D foam.

The cut out images I had set aside were then attached to the Arches using 3D foam and placed so they looked like they were just resting on the card.


I added a few fancy charms, mostly which were silver so I used the good old Krylon pen again to colour them to gold. I used some fancy co-ordinating fibres to attach the charms to the Arch and finally, edged the whole thing with gold Krylon, just for a finishing touch.
