Back From The Brink...

Happy Star Wars Day peeps!!!!     So...did you miss me?  Did ya?  Well, I have been on my death bed this past few days!  Oh yesh, the deadly ManFlu has infected me and I have, truly, been at death's door!  Well, maybe a slight smidge of an exaggerations there but... ahem... it was a bad old do!  I haven't had a cold for a yonk and a half, I put it down to the vast quantities of garlic that I consume you know... this is now clinically proven as last week I had... NO garlic at all!  There ya go, garlic-less food = Manflu suffering!  Anyways... I started to feel a bit brighter yesterday so set about playing with my new Fresco Paints and a set of the gorgeous stamps from Lin Brown for Paper Artsy.

I love the handcarved look of these stamps and now needs them all!  I haven't tried handcarving me own stamps and now I want to have a go.. I have seen the gorgeous effects that Ellen (CONGRATS to Ellen too.. she is now a Certified Ranger Educator) has achieved with her own handcarved stamps and I thinks I am being left behind.... so I needs to get some lino and a carvy tool thingy (I am a bit scared knowing how dangerous I am with 'owt sharp!)

The base for this little hanging in one of the papiermache boards from Paper Artsy and once I had bobbed some bookpage onto it and then applied some Grunge Paste using a spikey tool applicator thingy I have, making groves in the paste.  Once this had dried, I popped some Liquid Leaf and Treasure Gold Wax onto the textured bit and then set about making some floral bits.  The flowers and leaves were stamped using the Fresco Paints onto black card, I cut them out and then coloured the backs of the petals with the same paints so they tone in nicely.   The addition of a button to the middles and tied with thin jute to match in with the hangy bit finished the piece off.

Apologies for not being about that much this week... I am hoping that now I am feeling more human again, I will be able to get back to normal blogging!   I am off to Sheffield today to The Craft Den for a canvas class... and it would be just plain rude not to bring some fish n chips home with me wouldn't it?   Thanks for looking, have a brill day!  TTFN

Hi Hels,

Glad to see you're getting back to your old self. Love the tag.

Never tried carving my own stamps, wouldn't know where to start.

Now the Grunge Paste and the fresco paints are great. I discovered them at AP, can't stop playing with them.

Enjoy your week end. X

Morning Hels, Loving this tag, the colours are gorgeous, the flowers with buttons look so beautiful. Absolutely adore the ridges in the grunge paste, so effective.
So glad you are feeling much better now, just shows, we should all eat much more garlic, I don't eat anywhere near enough, but I do take Allicin a derivative from garlic, which helps in a way.
Have a good demo day.
Lots of love from Patricia xx

I've had some speedball Lino for a while and the tools just sitting there waiting to be played with and I've had zero time to play with them. I know how you feel. I feel like it may be on the cards very soon seeing your wonderful creation with Lin's stamps. Michelle x

hi there hels, good to hear you are feeling better, never touch garlic myself, seems it works for you though, so you know what needs to be done, who cares if you stink, hahaha, love the flowers, they look really bold. got a new mantra for you, EAT GARLIC, EAT GARLIC etc, etc. you have to say this as though you were a darlek (is that how you spell darlek, who knows, you take care of yourself, corinna

So glad to hear you're feeling better!

Love this design so much! If you fancy having a go at doing your own stamps Speedball do something called speedy carve, it's softer and easier to cut than lino for beginners. They have a starter kit with the speedy carve, a cutting handle and nib for about a tenner, so ideal to play with :)

Sorry to hear you've been unwell this week and so pleased to see you are feeling like playing again. This tag is superb with the lovely textures and the flowers. Hope you will be careful if you do try carving your own stamps.
