Juxtaposition...

...bet you never thought that you would see a word like that on this normally waffle filled blog! Oh ho, don't panic, I haven't swallowed a dictionary or 'owt like that. What has actually happened is that I got this word into my brain yesterday and it just would not go away. I have not the faintest idea what made it lodge in my noddle... but it did... so I thought I had best do something about it... and, as if by magic, a tag appeared!

Now, I had been a-faffing with metal tape for a class idea when I decided to have a little go at that overlapping technique that is in the Compendium II. I haven't tried that before... and I have to say, it is rather satisfying. At first, all those wonky shaped pieces of metal looked like nowt on this earth... it was one of those "oh dear, where's the bin?" moments. But, I persevered. And I love the effect once it is finished. I used my Ten Second Studio tools to make the lines, dots, rivets and scooching on the tape, sanded over the top with a sanding block and then bunged some Pitch Black Dabber over the top so it collects in the indents.

I am a numpty and forgot to take a piccie of the tag before it was decorated... but you can get the idea of what it was like. And it was lovely but... a bit... erm... industrial. So, with "juxtaposition" bouncing about with my brain cell, I decided to add something a bit feminine and soft to the tag. And yep, it had to be a flower! I used Crowded Attic papers, die cut in the Tattered Florals die and then coloured with Seedless Preserves DI... then crumpled, sanded and assembled with a Faucet (tap!!!) Knob for the middle (given a smidge of white paint to match the sanded bits) and a couple of Tattered Leaves, coloured with Crushed Olive and Peeled Paint DI and crumpled and sanded. There's some flowery trim across the tag and some tulle at the top to make it a bit softer too. Oh and a Gem Clip. I have to say; whilst I love the Gem Clips, I have had a few where the gem bit has cracked into two or has fallen off... this one was stuck back on but if it cracks, it is d e a d :O( Wondering if maybe the packet I got had been dropped or bashed in transit.....

Anyways... time for me to go... this was supposed to be a short post (ha! when are they ever short?) I am away to (hopefully) sunny Essex this weekend for my classes at Birds in the Barn... I can't wait... lots of inkyness to be had. Thanks for looking... Have a grand weekend! TTFN

Juxtaposition is a super word and a pretty cool idea, Hels. Love what you have done. I too have been playing with the metal tape - serious fun! And as you show not only for rooves and blokes!

Not sure if you'll get sun, but I'm sure the class will be great. Your tag looks wonderful - I was looking at this technique yesterday. Love the contrast with your pink flower.

Like Jennie above says, it would be a great technique for a male card. I love how the metal looks dull rather than shiny and you did a great job with those tools. Beautiful flower and beautiful tag. Have fun at your class. Anne x
