Stanley Spider's Spool of Dreams...

...Cor, that sounds like it could be a name for a 1970's prog rock band... but no, it is actually the abode of Stan Spider who is probably one of my favest cutest ickle Studio 490 stamps. I have had a few questions and emails about the Art Part Spools that I have made for the shows... like "how easy are they to make?" "They look complicated, I don't know if I could be fussed..." and such like. So, I thought that I would bob this one on here for you so you could see just how easy they are to make and assemble.

The ingredients are; Spool and Stalks from Art Parts Sample Pack, leaves from Leaves Pack, Grungepaper, It's More Flower Art & Botanical Art Stamp sets, Distress Ink & Stain, Idea-ology, Olive and Jet Black Archival Ink, Clearly For Art Clear (smidgetty bit for Stan) And here's how I made it :O))

The Spool parts were coloured with Picket Fence Distress Stain and then coloured over the top with Dusty Concord Stain. I stamped a background flourish over these using black Archival and dried with a heat tool. The stalks and Leaves were coloured with Peeled Paint DI and overstamped with the long floral border stamp using Olive Archival. The butterflies were stamped onto Grungepaper and coloured with a very light dusting of Walnut Stain and edged with Chipped Sapphire DI's. The flower was stamped onto Grungepaper twice, the middle cut out of one and coloured with Dusty Concord DI and the large one with Wild Honey DI. I then tied a bow around the stem and added some Idea-ology bits. Stan was stamped onto an offcut of Clearly For Art in black Archival, heat dried (pop an acrylic block over the top to flatten it out) and then cut out and attached to one of the leaves with hot glue.

Another common question I get asked is "what do you use for glue?" Well, most of the things are glued with either Cosmic Shimmer (clear drying) glue - seriously guys, this is totes-amazeballs, dries quickly and it's really strong... the Locket stuck onto the butterfly was glued with the Cosmic glue... took a few seconds to set and it is on there nice and securely... for the more 3d embellishments I use hot glue. Occasionally I will use Multi Medium (if I am covered CFA with paper for example). Hope that helps!

Right... I must away... We have been out this afternoon to see a train being named after a colleague who sadly passed away last year... it was quite an emotional day, I met up with old drivers who I haven't seen for yonks, and of course, seeing my old Traction Inspector honoured in such a way was so poignant. I do want to say a big thank you to all my Facebook friends who clicked to join the group set up to campaign to get the train named for him... thank you all, it worked!! Right.. I have to go before I start blubbing... and I do have a chicken curry to cook (mmm, nomnom nomnom nomnomnom...) and I fancy myself a bit of inky time this evening... Thanks for looking... TTFN!

Hels x

PS... I got a comment left from "Yahoo"... asking where to get the Sentimental Art set - you didn't leave me a way to reply to you so I hope you see this... if you CLICK HERE you will be taken over to The Stamp Attic... HTH!

Sorry to hear it was an emotional day for you, but what a memory of a lovely person. When I stick art parts I use glossy accents, it does seem to work quite well. Regards, Anne Rx
