One, Two, Three...

...ouch!!! Nothing arty in this post... nope, I am fishing for sympathy today because... I have been the bravest of the brave and been and had some more injections in my spine. The title refers to the amount of times the anaesthetist tried to get a canula into the back of my hand... oh yes, I may be larger than life but my veins surely aren't! Finally they managed to locate one and then the real ...ahem... fun started.

The Doc is fantastic, I will say that before I go any further, for a start off, she is lovely and reassuring and not at all huffy as some Docs can be... and she called me "darling" all the time, which is really comforting... mmm, daft it sounds but it is true! Anyways... once the canula was in the back of my hand, I was manoevred into position (a rather fetching pose called "having one's posterior in the air" - don't try and visualise that, for you will surely be ickkypoops) and then the real pain started. Because of all the metal work that is holding my old spine upright, the injections had to be done with the aid of an X Ray machine... one of those amazing ones that beams the picture straight to a monitor. Well, "local" injections were done first... ouch and thrice ouch is all I will say. Then she starts with the facet joint injections which really hurt. Like, they hurt so much that I did what any other self respecting 41 year old would do... and I burst into tears... oh how I wish I could reserve my dignity and cry delicately and quietly but alas... no, these were great snot flying tears.... the type that render anything you are trying to say completely unitelligable. Needless to say, the lovely nurse who was holding my hand quickly wiped away any snot that had flown and my face...

I then begged for a sedative... well, Doc asked if I would like something to take the edge off and I said "YES" in very loud wailing gasps. The sedative didn't last very long, just long enough for the rest of the injections to be done... I had 5 or 6, I am not sure because I can't see them because I have a HUGE dressing (ok, it isn't huge but it isn't just a sticking plaster either) and... I am in a-gon-y... which is normal, apparently... and once that has settled I should feel the benefit. There's a bit of bad news too though... cos of all those nasty pins, I am not allowed anymore injections (mm, really? Bad? Mmmm) So it is back to the drawing board with the pain management but... I am alive, I coped, I got over having to have foot long needles jabbed into me and... I am just so relieved that it is over and done with. Right, I am away to lay down and take it easy for the rest of the evening... I am very lucky to have my lovely Grim here looking after me... Hoping to be back in the Room of Stash making inky stuff again soon.... TTFN!

Hels x

PS.... all sympathy is very gratefully received lol
