They'd Shoot a Horse For Less...

...they would you know... I got a bit of a shock yesterday at the hospital... I have finally got a diagnosis which explains why I am in so much pain and am suffering so much with the old back playing up. First of all though, I cannot praise the hospital highly enough; I was sent to X Ray as soon as I got there... and X Rayed five minutes later... then I was sent back to the waiting area and had literally only just opened up my book when my name was called... so all in all, my waiting time was about 10 minutes! I have never been seen so efficiently ever! So, all credit to Kettering General Hospital. Anyways... those X Rays were on the Consultants computer already! So he could see the old vertebrae and tell me what he thought... which he did... and... it is a bit of a bummer really... I have got Cervical and Lumbar Spondylosis. And, which is worse I think, I am never going to get any better! And... just in passing like... remember I took a short cut down the stair case on my bum last year? Well, I only went and fractured my coccyx! It was there on the screen to see quite clearly - no wonder I was in such pain huh!!! Anyways, the long and the short of it is that I will never be able to drive a train again (I kinda knew that but always held out the hope that I would one day be able to return to my lovely career) and I now have to see a Pain Management consultant who will hopefully be able to sort out my meds and maybe I will be able to get some injections to reduce the pain... As much as I would love to, I am not going to go and sit in a corner and bawl my eyes out because that will not achieve anything... no, I am going to face this head on... and realistically, it could be a whole lot worse ... so I am not giving into the I feel sorry for myself emotions that I am kinda feeling at the moment. I really appreciate all the lovely comments and emails I got yesterday wishing me well... you are a lovely caring bunch of gals... and I truly did feel comforted reading all the messages... so ... THANK YOU!

Right... moving on.. like ya do... I have made an ATC as a Giveaway on the Artistic Stamper Creative Team Blog... all the deets etc can be found HERE and how to own it is there too. Also, if you leave me a comment on this post, I will add your name into the hat too... so if you leave a comment on both... you will be entered twice :O)) That is... if you would like to own it ROFL I feel a little bit "talked out" if you know what I mean... strange for me as I can normally sit and yak for hours on end lol... So I shall say... thanks for looking... have a goodly day!!! TTFN

Sorry about the news on your back but at least you have a diagnosis now and they can help to manage the pain, fingers crossed. Lovely piece as usual Hels, great layers and subtle colours x

Oh, aren't you the lucky one? (no, not really....) My DH & my mom both have stenosis (what you have), so I "feel your pain". The shots do indeed help, according to Tom & Mom - so, relief is in sight! I'm glad the hospital folks treated you so nicely & your diagnosis isn't any worse.

Your ATC's sweet! And apropos .. :-) I hope you feel better soon, dear Hels!

Sorry to hear about the diagnosis but at leat you now have answers and can move forward. And a few tears can help from time to time. So you can't drive a train anymore, at least there are plenty of other things you can do, like make art! Neat ATC!

Sorry to hear about your back, but I suppose having a diagnosis is good in one way. Hope the pain consultant can sort you out soon. Love the ATC and would love to have a chance to own it...

What a relief it must be to have an 'official' diagnosis - albeit a scary one - but at least now that you know, you can at last get the pain management that you desperately need, find out about your limitations - or what not to do - and continue to 'get lost' in your amazing art work.

You have probably had it mentioned before, but in case you haven't, I have found that a TENS machine is a great pain destration that definitely helps, and your GP or pain management clinic will surely be able to advise if it will help you at times, and they usually loan them out.

As always, your fabulous art work leaves me breathless.

Thinking of you
xx

Really sorry to hear about the cause of your troubles Hels. It sounds so painful and I think the injections will help as my sister had a similar sort of thing n a different place and these did help her pain loads.

So sorry about your situation. On the positive side you know what is wrong and hopefully they can now help to manage your pain better. It must be heartbreaking to know you will not be able to get back to your career. Take care. Hugs. ANesha

well you, I have a fractured coccyx (for the last 47yrs actually) and have spondylitis in my neck (for the last 15yrs at least)and I still craft and have a good laugh at your rantings every blog post. Now, my car blew up today and I reckon that's worse 'cos I can't escape on my own just now, less I go in 'peg leg's' car which makes my accelerator foot ache, which means I can't sneak any craft goodies in without he knows. Which is worse???
Hugs. xxxxx

Sorry to hear about the diagnosis, and it's such a shame you have to give up your main career. Your such a talented artist and hopefully crafting will help you through your treatments. The pain management team are fantastic and not all treatments are medical and you can try new things (I never thought I'd rely on my tens machine as much as I do!!!) I love the atc very apt.

I'm so proud of you - that must have been hard to come out of that consultation then log on and face it head on - You are an inspiration and I bet there are others out there that could benefit from your strength, God Bless

Every cloud has a silver lining - you don't know what it is at the moment but you will see it one day. I always believe things like that. I wish you well and hope the pain is managed soon so that you get some relief.
Thanks for all your continuing inspiration.
Take care and have a fabulous weekend.

Well! At least you have a flippin' diagnosis! And it isn't so horrible, I guess, thankfully you're able to get to the room of stash, so that should make you feel a little better. I hope the shots will help, hun, and glad you now know what it is so it can be dealt with. And your ATC is WONDERFUL!

Coming out of lurkdom to commiserate. Has anyone suggested a consultation with a physio? Some light exercises to strengthen the muscles around your spine will help to support the bones and hopefully provide some relief.

Wonderful artwork - but then it always is ;-)

Hi Hels - I often think once you know what the problem is - you can make small (or large) adjustments and get on with life. I do hope Pain Management get you sorted quicky - they are usually very good.

I sorry your career as a train driver has been tragically cut short perhaps you could try out for the ticket office. lol

I know what its like to get a diagnosis which means things aren't going to improve, but I can only tell you that the (crafty) life I have now is way better than the one I had when I was working .... even with the pain. I do so hope that one day you reach the same conclusion, that if you could wave a magic wand actually you wouldn't! Sending hugs and blessings.

Keep up the positive attitude Hels! Hopefully they will sort out the pain control quickly.
So you actually broke your bum on the little trip down the stairs last year! Owwwww!
Love your ATC, it is the perfect quote!

Repeating what has already been said I know Hels, but just to say I'm so sorry your problem is not curable so that you could drive your beloved trains again but at least you do have a diagnosis so that they can get your meds sorted out to work as efficiently as possible.

From our point of view (your blog buddies) and from a completely selfish perspective at least we'll still get to see loads more of your fab art ......... like this wonderful ATC ..........instead of it being rationed because you were off driving a train.

Lots of love and hugs
Lesley Xx

Hels - that is a real bummer, but I know you are not one for mopng around.

I had my hands done last Monday - xray-guided injections - I was knocked out - and althought it was so painful for a couple of days - I am painfree. How long for I don't know - but discussions at end of Feb may decide what happens next.

Take care lovely lady - hope to see you soon.

Hugs
Valxx
