A Funky Book...And... A Whoops...

...Cor blimey... who did it?? Go on, admit it... someone fast-forwarded the last week... was it you??? Or are you as bemused as me by this sudden whizz forward in time??? Anyways... enough of that, today is Friday... which means... today is my day for the Bubbly Funk DT... and this week I have been mostly playing with inks and chipboard... and finally got around to making my first Journal... to erm.. journal in LOL To see how I made it... please click HERE and you will be whisked off to Bubbly Scrumptious :O))

So... I have been watching a few peeps in BlogLand doing this Journalling malarkey and have fancied trying it out for myself... to the point that I did actually try it once and made a right holy hash of it... remember that WOYWW celebratory piece I did... yep... good background, naffer than naff writing... So I was faffing about making this book and I thought that I would be clever and actually do one page... the first one too, even though the book I am reading about Journalling (Journal Spilling by Diana Trout.. is a MUST read!!) says that you don't have to start off on the first page....well, I thought I would just go for it and... a very happy accident happened... can you see the shape that appeared on the page??? Or is it just me... oh and that reminds me... do you see faces in fancy curtains and patterned carpets... and... do you see animals and funny shapes in clouds... mmm, just me then ROFL

Anyways... the Book of Hels is started... I just have to tackle the writing bit.. I think I may have to resort to stamping out the words.. I mean, I have the right pens now, it is just a case of being brave enough to go for it... and I realllly do not want to mess up this first page! Oh and the sentiment which is on the inside cover is to remind me to be ... just me!
So the WHOOPS... did ya know that it was my 3rd Blogaversary on the 7th Sept??? Neither did I ROFL I thought it was later in the month but I just checked and it was Friday 7th Sept 2007 that I made my very first post... who'd have thunk it all those years ago that I would be sitting here, still waffling on and... I have made so many friends... BlogLand is a rather spiffing place to be!!! Right, time for bed said Zebedee... tis very very very late... or early, depending on which way you look at it... tis the only time I can get online and not have to wait several frustrating hours for pages to load!!! Thanks for looking... TTFN

Very cool, Hels!
If I may make a suggestion? To get yourself started writing, find a quote you like - write it on a page, then go from there. Expound on that quote or put some pictures with it or whatever ... but all you need is that first single step.
All of that said, I've got to get back to my own journal this weekend! *lol*

Thanks for the tips Nancy.. will try that :O))

Great journal, good luck with the inside!! I notice you didn't go straight to bed like you were going to, from the time of your reply to Nancy!
Hope your next class on Sat goes well, I am off to the Craft Barn. (NOT going to shop though.... do you believe me? Then I'm a better liar than I thought I was, lol!) Have a great weekend.

Hi Hels
Why worry about the perfect page - it's YOUR page !
I spent ages fretting with "crisp blank page" syndrome !! Never did anything ! Now I journal what catches my fancy & don't worry about messy writing & slightly wonky designs. Its not great art but just a fun thing to look back on .. well it works for me !
I'm reading Journal Spilling too & enjoying it - and I'd recomend reading the Visual Chronicles book -good things to try to get you stuck in !
Anyway - I'm trying for the "just chill & have fun with it" thing - tricky for a "neat & symetrical" kinda girl- hope you enjoy your new journal too !! Ali x

Yep I see things too...oh that sounds daft don't it..we have lino in the bathroom that I see angels and devils in. We used to have an old walnut wardrobe when I was little, scared me to death with all the faces I used to see in it.
I love what you have done to your journal :)
*hugs* Heather x

The colours are so inviting as is that 'basque'!!!!!
I saw a terradactyl in the sky over Weymouth marina last June and put a picture on my blog. It was amazing.

Your journal looks as if it will be terrific! I can see a fairy on that first page. Is that what I was meant to see?!

Ooh lovely, can't wait to see more ;-) I know some people write things in journals that they don't want to tell others and then cover it up with paint - sounds like it's defeating the object of writing but you could just leave bits of it showing

YAY - love the *Book of Hels*! Can't wait to try! And as for writing - I print the quotes out on the printer and cut up the words - took handwriting out of it all-together! But your journal should be just that... YOUR journal... so do whatever you want!

Don't know what I was thinking... clearly I didn't finish my thought... "can't wait to try" (???) anyway what I meant to say was "Can't wait to SEE how you fill it up!"

Great start, Hels! I've wanted to try one also, but just don't know if it's in my "niche". I'll wait to see how yours turns out... I can see it now, in a hundred years, some archeologist will stumble upon the Book of Hels, and it will be in a glass case in whatever museum you have over there, lol....

I'm with you Hels on the messing up the page malarky. Scary! Mind you I don't like messing up the cards I've made by writing in them either!

Good luck with your journal.

Have fun with your journaling! I am actually amazed that you have never tried this before - you are such a funny, creative writer in your blog. You have motivated me to give it a try also, but I first want to decorate the cover in a cool fashion. (I hope that's not as far as I get since I much prefer making art to writing.) Thanks for all the great tips for getting started from your blog-fans! I too see faces all over the place but especially on the cammode. My ceramic floor tile has a shadowy pattern that is the home of the most interesting characters. Every day I see new ones and they are always changing! I AM SO GLAD TO FIND OUT THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY NUT OUT THERE!

Lovely journal Hels! I also find it odd that you have not ventured into this before!! You have such a witty way of typing that I am sure your journal will be stunning... and don't worry about the hand writing, as when you look back on it in a year or so you won't worry about that bit at all, just be amazed at what you actually wrote!

Oh and I am sure it wasn't Zebbedy that said that...

Must admit Hels I struggle with the writing, in fact I will probably use stamps too. Love the resist on the front cover and the heart on the inside, really funky heart. Have a good day, Tracy Evans x

Hels - looks if this is going to be very cool. I think as long as it is YOU - that is all that matters. Love the start you have made and the colours used.

Glad to see I am not the only one who stays up late blogging.

Hugs

Brilliant blog, I had not noticed pinkleart.blogspot.com before in my searches!
Carry on the excellent work!

Just go for it Hels - this is about YOU and not what anybody else thinks. Try writing the things you've learned the hard way and might want to remind yourself of in times to come??
