Sunday Stampers - Week 111 - Song Sung Blue

Morning Stampers! Phew... what a scorcher of a week we have had here in England.. I would have said the UK but... apparently my pal in Scotland has told me it is lovely and cool up there... I put a thermometer in my Room of Stash yesterday afternoon... it got to 38 degrees!!! Am going to have a little beg at Grim and get him to put the air cooler in my room... I have heard of suffering for art but melting for it??? Nah! Anyways... THANK YOU to everyone who joined in with the challenge last week...yummm, lots of loverly bling for me to see :O)) This week I have picked a song tune which will have you humming it all day long, tis another of those oldies that I love... Song Sung Blue... so the theme is... BLUE. Now, if you want, you can add in the song part, I haven't cos I am not that clever ROFL

I made a Beeswax Hanging using an 8" square canvas and some ickle mini canvases and some stamping, painting and tissue papering. The base (and the mini's) were painted with...erm... how can I break this to you without you being shocked??? Ok... here goes... Traditional Tan Studio Paint *aha! I bet you thought for a moment it was gonna be a different colour LOL* I added some blue streaks using Sky Blue Studio Paint to the base and the set about Beeswaxing it.

I used tissues which I separated into single ply's...then stamped Tim Holtz Collection sentiments onto them, cut them to fit the mini canvases and then popped Beeswax over the top - the beauty of using normal tissues is that they simply melt into the background so you can't see them.

The base had a whole tissue popped over it, stamped with some Tim Holtz Collection background stamps. The little birdies are cut out of fancy napkins - this is a technique I learnt on a workshop with Lin Brown - she is sooooo clever! I added on some little beads and BeaDazzles using superglue and then made a hangy thing for the top using fat eyelets and some Idea-ology.

To join in with the challenge, all you need to do is make a piece of art... it can be anything you chose... add in some stamping and the theme... leave a comment for me here with a link to the place you are showing your creation, then I can hop on over to see you :O)) The theme will stay open until 21:00 Saturday July 17th '10. Thanks for looking... have a FAB day... I plan to try and stay as cool as possible and get as inky as possible... not sure how easy that will be LOL TTFN

Hels x

This really is gorgeous Hels. Love the titchy little canvases and the colour is stunning.

Er, my craftroom (ex conservatory) can beat your craftroom temperature. I had to lock up for a couple of hours today to go shopping and when I returned it was 48 degrees. It's a wonder things don't spontaniously combust! At 12.30 am it is now 30 degrees, groan!!!!

I love evrything I see of yours but this is my favorite! It is just so soft and subtle looking. I love how you added the mini canvases to it. How did you attach them? I am going to case this and make a hanging for my brother for Christmas.

Just wondering where you buy your trad tan paint by the gallon. Here in the US you can only get it in those teensy weensy jars. LOL Beautiful piece, by the way.

Hello Hels,

a real nice canvas ! I like the whole composition and you really have an eye for composition !

i like the background with the subtle touch of blue.
thanks for the tip on stamping on tissue paper ! I always find it difficult to stamp on a painted background : the image doesn't always stamps very crisp, but on tissue paper it does come out great.

The tissue paper indeed blends in with the background with the bees wax. Long time since I used my beeswax...

Finally vacation, so I hope to be able to create much, maybe even something to participate...( blue IS my color...)

greetings from belgium
Inge
