Altering a Disc....Oh...

... I know, another rubbish title, but bear with me, I am still in a right old fluster after my visit to see Edward * I mean Eclipse* yesterday afternoon... put simply, if you haven't seen it, you need to go... cos it is FAB! The whole experience was made miles better 'cos there is a special offer on at the cinema, if you get a large drink (which I did - a blue IceBlast *the best drink in the world*) you get large popcorn cheaper than a medium size, well it would have been rude not to take advantage of that. However, his Grimness decided not to have popcorn... which meant that he stuffed half of mine, tis a good job I love him otherwise there would have been a scrap LOL 'Twas also great to hear about your popcorn preferences...mmm, butter on popcorn??? I haven't seen that over here in the UK, but, I am seriously liking the sound of that! Anyways... enough of my waffling... today I have been getting inky and messy with an old CD...

Covering both sides in paper - one side with the Vintage Shabby pack and the other with another of those book pages... then inking them with Distress Inks, adding some Grungey bits and bobs and a bit of Idea-ology...The hanger is one of those Idea-ology things that I can never remember the name of, I attached a smaller version of the Idea-ology thing that I can never remember the name of... and then used some Jump Rings to attach pearls and crystals...

Do you see the little ticket??? I hit on the idea of being a scrooge and just using one Adage Ticket but having both sides on view... so the stamped sentiment is for the flowery side and the Soar for the birdy who has been freed from his cage.

The cage was cut from Grungepaper using Tim's Alterations - I inked it with Embossing Ink and then used Vintage Photo Distress Powders... once it had cooled, I rubbed off the release crystals and then applied a dab of gold paint to make the cage look rusty. Now, I have read about this rusty stuff you can buy to put on Chipboard etc but haven't seen it in the shops... if anyone knows what it is... please tell me :O))

I am in a state of hightened excitement today too... 'cos our new furniture arrived this morning, blimey, we ordered it 13 weeks ago so I think I have been uber patient... so, guess what I will be doing this afteroon...yep, alternating between lounging on the new sofa and playing with the recliner chair... poor old Grim has to work so I get a choice of seat this evening... I know he will baggsy the chair... and he has even said that when anyone comes to stay he is going to put a beach towel on it in the middle of the night to "reserve" it... now, I am thinking, that could be a really UK-ish joke that no one will have the faintest idea what I mean... remember the Carling advert from the 80's?? I will shut up now I think ROFLMAO... right, off to lounge about... Thanks for looking and ... TTFN

Wowee, what a gorgeous hangy thing Hels. It's just fabulous.
On the rusty front I have a little book and kit I got from Crafty Notions about rusting things a short time ago. Haven't had time to play yet but it's worth a look on the website as it tells you all about it there and all Sarah Lawrence's stuff is just fab.
Your comment about Grim and the towel made me giggle too (very like those pushy Germans you get on holiday lol)

Love this hangy piece. Those swivel clasps (haha) are great aren't they!! Hope you enjoy your new chair - is that why you make Grim work shifts so you can bag the best one?!

Great idea decorating a disk, the papers are yummy and the idea-ology. You must get through so much of that stuff. I know I use a fair bit but you use more than me LOL. New furniture, how nice, I'm off to sort my craft room which does not sound as interesting as your new settee/chair. Enjoy. Tracy Evans x

Hels, Love what you did with the discs, There cd's right? I just used CD'd but not nearly as creative as you, Hung them in our apricot tree to detour the pesky birds. LOL

Love this Hels, the colours are gorgeous! Both sides are fab, can't make my mind up which side I like best. You can get microwave buttered popcorn over here, my son has shares in the company ha ha!
I was thinking that you could always train Alfie cat swap Grim's towel for yours in the night, that way you would always get the recliner. Judith xx

Great idea using the disc! Everyone has some they've received free in mail or old music not liked anymore. Think I'll give it a try today. For the rusty effect on grungeboard/paper - you can use a combination of Rusty Hinge DI and Walnut Stain together (not on top of each other but "splotched" around so that one or the other covers the whole item). Also for a worn paint effect "splotch" Jet Black archival and add Brushed Corduroy DI or similar lighter color. Works well without the mess & wait of rusting solution.

I know EXACTLY what you mean about chairs - we've recently had a new leather sofa and I had to get my bid in early! However, it's clearly identified as MINE now, all others need permission to park their bums on it! Love your hanging dangly thingy too!

Another 'wow' piece of art from you! Woohoo! Love the fact that you can see it from both sides.

Hels, this is absolutely gorgeous!! I've been having fun going through all of your posts that I've missed because I've been such a bad blogger - girl you have been on fire! Beautiful, inspiring, stunning pieces abound.

One question... what adhesive did you use on the disk? I'm gonna be making a bunch of calendar pages on discs in November, and don't want them going all peely halfway through the year!

LOVE THESE! Spectacular as always, Hels! Love the pearls on the SWIVEL CLASP. lol What? You've never heard of butter on popcorn? Seriously? It's like, an American tradition I guess... I've never known it to be without.....rofl.

You've got no chance Andrea.....but as you say I can easily be bought for some choccy caramel lol

Great way to recycle those pesky Cd's that pop up everywhere. I love what you've done here.
I've used 3D paint on them to create an under water scene with CD's, smooshing a few colours of paint between 2 old CD's
-when pulled apart you get coral, seaweed and a watery texture, at least that's what I saw (ink splodge test jumps to mind, lol)
btw, I make my own popcorn in my popcorn machine, drizzle melted butter over and stir then I sweeten it with sprinkle sweetener, to cancel the butter calories, lmao
yum!

Hels, I love this! I want to echo the question already posted - what adhesive do you recommnend that will keep that lovely paper firmly stuck to the CD? Gorgeous, I love both sides equally well!
