In My Pocket...........There Are Some Buttons!!

Hello Peeps,

Well, here it is! The launch of a brand new Blog Challenge. I really hope that you all love this one, it is slightly different from normal and I hope that you will all find it lots of fun.

You will see from the title that the new Challenge is called "In My Pocket". Now, this is a really simple challenge in as much as all you need to do is cut a pocket shape from card or paper and then decorate it, hide the "theme" of the week and then pop a post here to let me know you have taken part.

Here is the template for the pocket, which I hope will help you .... of course, if you want to make your pocket larger or smaller, then that is entirely up to you :O))

Instructions for Template: Firstly, take a piece of cardstock and cut 7" long. Next cut it to 3 3/4 " wide. Score a line 3" from the top of the card. This will make your folded flap. Now cut off the corners of the card - the best way to do this, I find, is to cut one corner, then use the offcut to make a little guide to cut the other corners, so they are all the same. I found a right angle cut gave the best look, but again, this is entirely up to you. Now all you need to do is get cracking with the decorating!!

Rules!

As with most challenges, there are always a few "rules". With this one, the only rule is that you must use the theme of the week to be your "hidden" object. The decorating is entirely up to you - use inking, stamping, papers....the choice is yours.....just remember to hide away the "theme" of the week under the flap. Oh, I almost forgot! The flap on the pocket can be secured using a closure or you can leave it open - again, the choice is yours!

Here is a little pocket I made using those most delish papers from the Urban Couture range by K & Co. Combined with some cute birdy stamps from Autumn Leaves, I used Teal StaZon to do all my stamping, used an emery board to distress the edges of the papers and then hid the buttons under the flap.

You can use your little pocket for loads of different things. I have made this one as a little greeting to send to a friend. How about making your pocket so you can add it to a Scrapbook Layout? You could add little photo's to it and make it a journalling feature. You could even keep all the ones you make and turn them into a little book!

Anyway, all that is left for me to say is ENJOY!! Please remember to pop your name on this post and the place where you are showing your creation.

Thanks for looking!

Hels xx

Later that day.........

I have been getting ever so messy this evening :O)) I decided to make another Pocket but this time using inks and stamps and goodness knows how many buttons and Grungeboard and Cracklepaint and well....you get the gist! LOL

Once I had made my template, I slapped on some Vintage Photo Cracklepaint and went off to have my dinner whilst I waited (ever so patiently) for it to dry. By the time I had eaten my yummy homemade curry (which, I hasten to add is the sum total of my culinary expertise) I nipped off to the craft room (making use of the fact that Grim was watching the footy) and finished off the rest of the decorating.

I used Frayed Burlap Distress Ink, applied with Cut & Dry foam on my swizzy new "proper" applicator tool, and then spritzed the whole pocket to within an inch of sogginess with Gold Glimmer Mist. I dried this off with a heatgun - I find this effective cos it leaves little dots of colour that really lift the background. I then used Aged Mahogany Distress Ink and blended this over the pocket, leaving patches of the Frayed Burlap showing thru. I used a piece of that most heavenly paper from Costco for a little bit of the inside flap and then set to with the stamping. Using black StaZon ink, I stamped the Skull and then stamped the Flourish with Aged Mahogany. I made the mistake of using Gold Dabber and clear embossing powder to stamp the Birds, which don't show up very well at all, on the front flap. I won't be doing that again!! The stamps are by Stampers Anon Tim Holtz collection and the letters are StudioG :O))

Finally, I went a little bit mad with some old buttons, that I had to firstly remove the shanky bits, and yes, they do hurt when they hit you in the face!! I can't find my clippy tool thingy so I had to use scissors, whoops, another pair to be re-sharpened, and then used a metal file to get the shanks flatter. I popped a couple of buttons onto the Grungeboard Skull and then added the others to the lower part of the pocket. Oh, and I also used a length of those teensy little beady chain bits to make the skull look like it was dripping with gold.....treasure....as in Buried Treasure!

Are you still awake? Gosh, I was going to do a brief description but as usual, I got carried away...anyway, the rest you can see for yourself, so I will shut up now! LOL

Thanks to those of you who have already joined in - I am so loving seeing all your different designs and am hoping I will be seeing plenty more!!
